Privacy Policy

Last updated: 20 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data YumeKumo (the "Service", operated by the "YumeKumo team") collects, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it. We never sell your personal data and we run no first-party analytics. To keep YumeKumo free, we display ads from a third-party advertising network (ExoClick), which may set its own cookies and collect data as described in the "Cookies and advertising" section below. We aim to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar European frameworks.

1. Who we are

YumeKumo is a community-run anime index operated by the YumeKumo team. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, contact us at support@yumekumo.moe.

2. Data we collect

Account data: your email address, username and password (passwords are stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider, never in plain text).

Profile data you choose to add: display name, biography and avatar image.

Age verification: if you choose to unlock mature (18+) content, we store your date of birth to confirm you are old enough. This can only be set once.

Activity data: your watch progress, watchlist, ratings, comments, source submissions and votes, follows, and activity feed.

Preferences: your theme, language and notification settings.

Technical data: basic server logs (such as IP address and request information) needed to operate and secure the Service.

We do not collect more than we need, and we never sell your data.

3. How we use your data (legal bases)

We process your data to: provide and secure your account and the Service (performance of a contract); show and personalize your activity, watchlist and recommendations (your requests and our legitimate interests); send essential transactional emails such as confirmations and the notifications you have enabled (contract and consent); verify age for mature content (legal obligation and consent); and keep the community safe through moderation (legitimate interests).

4. Cookies and advertising

Essential cookies and local storage: needed for the Service to work, for example, to keep you signed in and to remember your language and theme.

Advertising: to keep YumeKumo free, we display ads supplied by ExoClick. ExoClick and its partners may set cookies or similar identifiers on your device and process data such as your IP address, approximate location, device and browser information, and your interactions with ads, in order to serve and measure advertising. This is carried out by ExoClick as an independent data controller under its own privacy policy (https://www.exoclick.com/privacy/).

We run no first-party analytics and we never sell your personal data. Depending on your region you may be shown a consent prompt before personalised ads are served, and you can limit ad tracking through your browser or device settings.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell or rent your data. We share it only with the service providers that help us run YumeKumo, under data-processing agreements:

Supabase, database, authentication and avatar storage.

Resend, sending transactional emails.

Google, only if you choose "Sign in with Google", which authenticates you via your Google account.

PrivateAlps, our hosting and server provider.

ExoClick, our advertising partner, which serves the ads shown on the Service and processes data as described under "Cookies and advertising" above.

Anime metadata is fetched from AniList, a third-party data source; we do not send your personal data to AniList.

6. International transfers

Some providers may process data outside your country. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent) to protect your data.

7. How long we keep your data

We keep your data while your account is active. When you deactivate your account, your profile is hidden immediately, and your account and associated data are permanently deleted after 30 days, unless we are required to keep certain records longer by law. You can reactivate within that window by signing back in.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to: access the data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; delete your data (the "right to be forgotten"); export or receive your data in a portable form; object to or restrict certain processing; and withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that already took place.

To exercise any of these rights, email support@yumekumo.moe. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

9. Children

The Service is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact support@yumekumo.moe and we will remove it.

10. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and hashed passwords. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and to limit who can access it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the "last updated" date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
